Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico

The Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico is an educational performing dance organization dedicated to education and awareness of the Hispanic community and its cultural contribution to society. Artistic Director Anita N. Martinez founded the ballet in 1975 in a recreation center on the west side of Dallas. In 1990, Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico produced its first season of professional dances employing dancers trained in Mexico.

The Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico is a resident company of the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

Arts & Letters Live

Arts & Letters Live is a literary and performing arts series for all ages at the Dallas Museum of Art that features award-winning authors and actors of regional, national and international acclaim. The series is recognized for its creative multidisciplinary programming, combining literature with visual arts, music, and film and for commissioning new work from musicians, dancers and poets, inspired by works of art in the Museum’s collections and exhibitions.

Arts District Chorale

The Arts District Chorale is a vocal ensemble of 80 voices. Its membership encompasses a diverse group of amateur and professional musicians from all walks of life — from marketing directors, software designers and CPAs, to attorneys, engineers, artists and writers. The common bond is a passion for choral art as an essential ingredient of life and a willingness to share it with the community at the highest level of performance. The Arts District Chorale promotes choral excellence and strives to share the joy and beauty of choral art through artistic performance in a variety of downtown venues — particularly those within the Dallas Arts District. The Arts District Chorale also includes a small group of vocalists known as the Arts District Cabaret.

Children's Chorus of Greater Dallas

The mission of the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas is to give Dallas-area children the experience of musical artistry and excellence through choral singing in a group that reflects the area’s diversity. The Chorus performs extensively throughout the Dallas area, often with other performing arts groups such as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra.

The Downtown Chorus consists of four children’s choruses (fourth through eighth grade girls and boys with unchanged voices) and two youth choirs. The Youth Chorus - Mixed consists of SATB high school students and, as of the summer of 2009, the Women's Youth Chorus is CCGD newest choir.

In 2008 the Chorus initiated a community engagement component called the Neighborhood Choir Program (NCP). NCP is free to participants and is a partnership between CCGD and school music programs. NCP brings music education to underserved classrooms and develops talent in the community. Singers that complete the program receive training that enables them to have a competitive audition for the downtown choir.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre

Dallas Black Dance Theatre is the city’s oldest continuously operating dance company. Founded in 1976 by Ms. Ann Williams, she remains the only artistic director the company has ever had. The contemporary modern dance company is comprised of 12 professional dancers who perform a mixed repertory of modern, jazz, ethnic and spiritual works by nationally and internationally known choreographers. In 2008, Dallas Black Dance Theatre completed the renovation of the historic Moorland YMCA building in the Dallas Arts District, built in 1930, which now serves as the permanent center for rehearsals, training, and dance education programs for the Dallas Black Dance Theatre.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre is a resident company of the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

The Dallas Opera

Since its glittering 1957 inaugural concert with the legendary Maria Callas, The Dallas Opera has made a national and international name for itself by discovering new world-class talents and enhancing the careers of important artists, directors and designers.

The Dallas Opera opened with an unforgettable performance by legendary Greek soprano Maria Callas in November of 1957. Subsequently, The Dallas Opera has presented many international stars in their American debuts, including Dame Joan Sutherland, Montserrat Caballé, Jon Vickers and Plácido Domingo, as well as designer/director Franco Zeffirelli.

The Dallas Opera is a resident company of the AT&T Performing Arts Center and performs in the Winspear Opera House.

Dallas Symphony Orchestra

As the largest performing arts organization in the Southwest, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra is comprised of 89 musicians and calls the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center home.

The DSO has grown from a 40-person ensemble to a world-class orchestra since its inception in 1900 under the leadership of such eminent conductors as Antal Dorati, Walter Hendl, Sir Georg Solti, Donald Johanos, Anshel Busilow, Max Rudolf, Eduardo Mata and Andrew Litton. Since the 2008 appointment of Music Director Jaap van Zweden, the orchestra has received consistent praise for stunning interpretations of works including Ludwig van Beethoven’s Fifth and Sixth Symphonies, the Verdi Requiem, Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 and many more. Under van Zweden’s leadership, the orchestra has received lavish praise from The New York times, Musical America, The Financial Times, Dallas Morning News and more.

The DSO’s array of concert offerings includes the Texas Instruments Classical Series featuring modern and classic composers, performed exclusively by the DSO; the DSO Pops Series which includes super stars of Pop music performing with and without the DSO; the Dallas Symphony Presents Series, which offers selected performances from all music genres performing with and without the DSO; the ever-popular Family Concert Series; and Holidays at the DSO, featuring a host of productions anchored by the nationally acclaimed Christmas Celebration. Concerts are held Thursday through Sunday.

Dallas Theater Center

One of the leading regional theaters in the country, The Dallas Theater Center produces new, contemporary and classic plays and musicals to an audience of more than 90,000 patrons annually.

Dallas Wind Symphony

The Dallas Wind Symphony is the leading professional civilian wind band in the United States today. Comprised of 50 woodwind, brass and percussion players, the band performs an eclectic blend of musical styles ranging from Bach to Bernstein and Sousa to Strauss. They combine the tradition of the British brass band with the musical heritage of the American town band and the pioneering spirit of the 20th century wind ensemble.

Since its debut in 1985, the Dallas Wind Symphony has entertained more than a million people both at home and increasingly, on tour. Among those entertained was Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, for whom the DWS gave a command performance in March 1991.

The success of the Dallas Wind Symphony can be attributed to the creation of a contemporary sound growing from traditional roots, cleverly constructed thematic programming, inspired leadership and Texas’ strong band tradition providing virtuosic players.

Fine Arts Chamber Players

Established in 1981, the mission of the Fine Arts Chamber Players is to enrich and enhance the quality of life for Dallas-area residents, especially families and children, through free concerts of classical music and educational performances.

The Fine Arts Chamber Players are not a set group of musicians, but professional classical musicians from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Dallas Opera Orchestra, the Fort Worth Symphony, and area university faculties who are chosen to play masterpieces of chamber music. Musicians for the young artist recital series are winners of area contests. The Fine Arts Chamber Players' educational and outreach programs are also performed by professionally trained actors, teachers and musicians.

Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra

The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra is an organization dedicated to providing music education and performance opportunities for musically talented youth.

The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra's programs cultivate learning, creative, social and motivational skills. Over 400 talented musicians perform in seven ensembles and socialize with a diverse group of highly talented peers from more than 50 communities. The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra's musicians also interact with professionals from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Wind Symphony and other local ensembles.

Metropolitan Winds

The mission of Metropolitan Winds is to enhance the sense of community and foster music appreciation in the area through regular performances of the world's great music, and to provide area musicians the opportunity to collaborate with friends, express themselves artistically and pursue a favorite hobby.

Metropolitan Winds performs a variety of concert literature from American band classics to classical orchestral arrangements. A specialty of Metropolitan Winds is the performance of film scores. They have played two well-received concerts of the music of John Williams, including the symphonic suites from Star Wars and Superman as well as works from Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. They have also performed a selection of band transcriptions for the music from Disney's Fantasia, and have featured film composer Bruce Broughton as a guest artist, conducting wind transcriptions of the suite from Silverado and other selections from Broughton scores.

Orchestra of New Spain

The Orchestra of New Spain concerts feature 18th-century Spanish works, unpublished and found only in manuscript in the libraries of the Royal Court and cathedrals in Spain for which they were originally written and where they have lain dormant for the past two centuries. The impressive quality of these works—for orchestra, soloists and chorus—reflects the importance of the Spanish capital in the artistic life of Europe of the 18th century, and its direct artistic links to Vienna, Paris and the Italian states.

In addition, the Orchestra of New Spain performs works from the general repertory of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Played on period instruments, an essential factor in performance today, these concerts allow a comparison to be made between the Spanish works and the established period repertory.

Texas Ballet Theater

Founded in 1961, Texas Ballet Theater is the preeminent ballet of Fort Worth and Dallas. Under the direction of artistic director Ben Stevenson, O.B.E., the Ballet brings unprecedented talent, beauty and artistic expression to the stages of Fort Worth's Bass Performance Hall, Dallas' Music Hall at Fair Park and the historic Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas.

Texas Ballet Theater is a resident company of the AT&T Performing Arts Center and performs in the Winspear Opera House.

TITAS

TITAS is the premier Texas presenter of major dance attractions in a series format, with one of the most successful programs in the Southwest United States. Since its inception, TITAS has continued to deliver a growing audience the world's finest performing arts at affordable prices and has established education and outreach programs not available elsewhere in the community.

TITAS has presented over 150 of the world's finest performing ensembles; ranging from the greatest classical companies, to the young American ensembles currently leading the dance world, to ethnic troupes rich in the history of other cultures. The eclectic nature of TITAS programming provides the community a window to the world from Dallas that would not otherwise be open.

Turtle Creek Chorale

With over 200 singing members, the Chorale presents a full subscription concert series, performing annually to live audiences in excess of 50,000. All members of the Chorale are dues paying volunteers who donate over 100,000 hours to rehearsals, service projects and as many as 50 benefit performances annually. The TCC has several sub-groups: Chamber Chorus, ENCORE!, New Texas Symphony Orchestra (NTSO), and Strangerettes.

Performances by the Chorale have included two state, two regional and three national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association as well as a regional convention of Music Educators National Conference. The Chorale has traveled to Europe, performing sold out concerts in Barcelona, Berlin, and Prague as well as two appearances at Carnegie Hall.
